Project Approach
Shifting towards digital agroecological farming harbors great potential in terms of increased sustainability, however, it also raises concerns about the environment, health and safety, privacy, and ethics. PATH2DEA, therefore, gives uttermost consideration to socio-economic research questions and addresses responsible innovation.
In order to reach its objectives, PATH2DEA builds on three major assets:
- Available digital tools and technologies in agriculture
- Farmers’ traditional knowledge and expertise - PATH2DEA focuses on this by working with six Showcase farms for in-depth knowledge co-creation and sharing
- Expert knowledge in agroecology science and digital innovation in agriculture
PATH2DEA is embedded in a wider Agroecology Innovation System (AIE), including other projects, technology platforms, innovation drivers, practitioners, the CAP network and SCAR. PATH2DEA will foster the network of various stakeholders and initiatives by creating a Digital Agroecology Cluster (DAC), which will provide networking opportunities and increase impact by seeking synergies.
The six Showcase farms function as role-models and demonstrators, thereby bridging between science and other farmers.
Project execution in PATH2DEA is organized via step-wise progression through PATH2DEA’s focus areas, which will be instrumental for achieving the project’s expected outcomes. The figure below, illustrates the project’s methodological approach related to its objectives, focus areas and expected outcomes.
