Wageningen University is part of Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR), which is a leading international knowledge institute in the fields of nutritional health, sustainable agricultural systems and environmental quality. The Philosophy Group (PHI) conducts leading research in the field of philosophy and ethics in the life sciences, including agricultural ethics. Central in PHI’s research program is the exploration of ethical and epistemic issues involved in public health and the relationship of humans with nature, animals, food and agriculture. The group aims to contribute to the responsible practices in public policy and professional and business contexts, with a specific focus on ethical deliberation, (research) integrity and responsible research & innovation.
The research of PI Blok focusses on ethics of technology and digital technology for sustainable food systems. He is one of the leading authors in the field of responsible innovation and involved in several National Research projects and EU projects on this topic. He is also an expert in the field of climate smart agriculture and the normative issues involved. With his multi-disciplinary team consisting of ethicists and social scientists, the Wageningen team combines conceptual and qualitative empirical research and as such, the team is especially suited to perform conceptual and empirical research in the project.
Role in the project
The PHI group will be involved in several workpackages and tasks to perform normative ethical analysis to address ethical, legal, social aspects (ELSA) and enhance responsible innovation.
